Welcome.
We are extremely excited to be opening our virtual therapy practice here in Southern Maine!
Luminary Therapy welcomes you. “You” being who you are right now – whether that be someone with joy in their hearts or tear-stained cheeks. You’re exactly where you need to be. But if you’d like assistance with healing, adjusting, adapting, or growth, we’re here.
Our practice values transparency, commitment, safety, and confidentiality above all else. We are committed to providing care that is anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and affirming for everyone.
About Us
As a word, Luminary encompasses the sun and the moon. The light and the dark. As people, we hold galaxies within us and remain the center star or sun of our own universe. That should be honored. Your value does not change whether you are bright and content or feeling down and in despair. We want to honor your complexity and provide thoughtful, caring, and informed treatment to address your concerns.
We believe that therapy should be accessible, safe, and a place to explore your inner thoughts, feelings, emotions, and motivations while you gain tools to grow.
About our Founder:
Brynna (she/her) founded Luminary Therapy to help folks who are seeking change, growth, and understanding. After working in non-profit settings and private practice in the New York City area for almost a decade, Brynna relocated to Maine to be closer to family. Here, she remains committed to providing care to diverse folks, specifically fellow queer-identified individuals.
Committed to centering each person as a star in the constellation that is their life, Brynna aims to honor the complexity of each person. This includes enhancing strengths, support, and goals to increase satisfaction and joy while untangling from life’s stressors and traumas.
Throughout her work in Westchester County and New York City, Brynna has gained extensive knowledge and experience treating individuals with present, historical, and generational trauma.
In her spare time, Brynna can be found traveling, playing piano, and reading fantasy novels.
Brynna is committed to providing mental health care that is anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and affirming for each individual.
Brynna has contributed to the following publications:
Brynna also is a proud alumnus of Iona University, regularly participating in the development of new social workers during their undergraduate years. She has also participated in the development of other psychotherapists as a clinical coordinator at a private practice in NYC. As they say, if you want to master something, teach it!
What to Expect:
Sessions are typically held on a weekly basis. Commitment to therapy is imperative, and weekly sessions provide increased treatment outcomes.
After 1-2 assessment sessions, a treatment plan is created to discuss therapeutic goals and identify therapeutic interventions to help you meet your needs. In the last stage of treatment, sessions may be held bi-weekly depending on therapeutic needs.
Are we a Good Fit?
Therapy requires a commitment to change. Sometimes, this change happens quickly, but most often it takes several months or years. Committing to therapy is a medium-to-long-term process that is well worth the time and effort put in.
Currently, we are a one-person team. Brynna has treatment experience with a wide variety of issues, so we will document what she does not provide. Brynna does not treat active eating disorders or active addiction. Her treatment modality background includes: trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, solution-focused therapy, couples therapy, systems therapy, existential therapy, and Gestalt therapy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does therapy do?
Therapy for anxiety, therapy for depression, and therapy for life changes often entails a combination of learning the root causes of your symptoms, as well as utilizing concrete skills to reduce the discomfort caused by said symptoms. Therapy for trauma or PTSD tends to focus on healing the mind/body connection as well as learning new ways to function and think. What therapy “does” is provide tools, pattern identification, symptom reduction, and ongoing support to help you reach your goals.
What is telehealth? How does telehealth work?
Telehealth is the act of providing services, specifically within the healthcare field, virtually. For therapy, telehealth works by using a HIPAA compliant video platform to have a “face to face” session without ever leaving the comfort of your own home! You’ll be provided a link to the video platform which you can access at the scheduled time of your session. This is great for working professionals, those with chronic illnesses, folks who like to travel, and for those experiencing symptoms that make it difficult to leave the home.
What kind of therapy do I need?
As much as we’d like to read minds, we simply cannot This is why therapists learn different therapies, coping skills, regulation skills, etc. to address a wide variety of needs. For example: agoraphobia tends to require exposure therapy. Panic disorder is greatly helped by somatic techniques or coping skills. Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine your goals, needs, and preferences to create a unique treatment plan tailored to you.
